EcoStyle Celebrates Living Wage Week 2020

Living Wage Week 2020 runs from 9th–15th November, and provides the opportunity for accredited employers to celebrate their commitment to fair wages for their employees. Luton-based company EcoStyle has now been a Living Wage employer for over five years, having become accredited in 2015.

The real Living Wage rates are higher than the government living wage, because they are independently-calculated based on what people need to get by. The Living Wage Foundation encourages all employers - that can afford to do so - to ensure their employees earn a wage that meets the costs of living, not just the government minimum.

EcoStyle’s Managing Director Simon Hall said: ‘We are proud to be one of almost 7,000 UK companies to have become accredited Living Wage employers, alongside organisations such as Aviva, Nationwide, Everton FC, and Brewdog.’

The UK real Living Wage is 78p per hour more than the government minimum wage (for over 25s), and the London Living Wage is £2.13 per hour higher. A full-time worker paid the new £9.50 real Living Wage will receive over £1,500 in additional wages annually compared to the current Government minimum. For a full-time worker in London, this figure rises to over £4,000.

The real Living Wage rates for 2020/21 have been announced as £9.50 in the UK and £10.85 in London. Since 2011, over £1.3 billion in extra wages has gone to low-paid workers, thanks to the Living Wage movement.

Simon continued: ‘As a company, we believe it’s important that our employees’ wages reflect the true cost of living. We hope it also shows how much we value our team and their contribution to EcoStyle.’
