University of Bristol Engineering Design Project

EcoStyle, in conjunction with Frazer-Nash Consultancy, has recently supported a two-year Engineering Design course at the University of Bristol.

Undergraduates developed a national competition for A-level students, promoting renewable energy and widening participation in STEM subjects.

Competing teams configure EcoStyle wind turbines and/or photovoltaic modules to charge an energy storage system.

The stored energy powers a miniature motorised delivery vehicle carrying packages. The winning team is determined by the distance travelled, number of packages carried, and budget spent.

Paul Harper, Programme Director for Engineering Design at the University of Bristol, said: ‘I started using the EcoStyle Renewable Energy Kits as a teaching aid for university undergraduates ten years ago, and they have always been tremendously valuable. I have been hugely grateful for Simon’s support over the years, and it has been great to see the continuous development and expansion of the EcoStyle product range.’

Paul continued: ‘I hope that this recent Engineering Design project (www.bristol.ac.uk/engineering-design) and the competition developed by our students will support EcoStyle in inspiring the next generation to help tackle society’s energy challenges in their future careers.’
