Our building

EcoStyle is based at the Luton Business & Innovation Centre within Butterfield Technology Park in Luton, Bedfordshire. As an environmental organisation, it was important to select premises which minimised the company’s environmental impact.

Our building incorporates a number of energy saving features, and has been awarded an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) rating. Designed by Hopkins Architects and built by Marriott Construction, the centre provides 7,000m² of space.

The £14 million funding for the building’s construction was secured from the East of England Development Agency and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The timber-clad building is naturally ventilated and contains automatic opening vents to provide night time cooling. Exposed concrete soffits provide thermal mass to help moderate temperature fluctuations.

A large lake in the centre of the development provides support for a wide range of wildlife as well as helping to deal with the rainwater run-off from the roof.  The hot water supply is supplemented by a roof-mounted solar water heating system. Energy-efficient lighting is installed throughout the building, and is automatically controlled by motion sensors.
