EDF Energy: 'The Pod' school sustainability programme

EDF Energy’s schools programme the Pod was launched in 2008 to deliver the company’s sustainability commitment of engaging with 2.5m children by 2012 in the sustainable use of energy.

The Pod aims to make real and measurable difference to the energy use of schools across the UK and to provide practical activities that children can take part in both at school and at home.

The Pod works in collaboration with Eco-Schools to provide activities that all start and end with an audit so the impact of each one can be easily measured and tracked.

The newest Pod activity - Energy Mix - is designed to help children understand the importance of a low carbon energy mix for the UK.

It has an interactive game, lesson plans, resource packs and information sheets that can be used to research the pros and cons of different energy sources and to create a debate about what the UK energy mix should look like.

EcoStyle kits really work well with this activity to make a fantastic hands-on learning experience, and the Pod has worked with EcoStyle to provide a special discount on the kits exclusively available to Pod teachers.
